Kinilig ako, siyempre. It’s a big project,” reveals Kapuso actress Megan Young when asked about her reaction upon learning that she’s going to breathe new life to the well-loved character of Mari Mar.

Despite feeling nervous, the Kapuso actress doesn’t let the nerves get to her and instead feels excited as she prepares for the role, “Acting wise, nagwo-workshop na kami nila Tom [Rodriguez] and Lauren [Young]. May dance and diving lessons din para siyempre mas magawa natin ng tama. Excited lang talaga ako, sine-set aside ko na lang ang kaba.”

Megan also admitted that she can relate to the character of Mari Mar. In an interview, Megan recalls her experience before she was hailed as Miss World 2013, “Si Mari Mar kasi she’s like any other Pinay who strive for the best.”

“Isa siyang hardworker, gagawin niya ang lahat para makuha ang mga pangarap niya. Ganoon din ako, kahit sinabi ng iba dati na baka matalo ako sa pageant… I put that aside kasi ito ang gusto ko. Manalo, matalo at least nagawako. Si Mari Mar ganoon din na kahit mag-fail siya, in the end she’ll make sure na ‘yung failure na ‘yun ay magiging encouragement sa kanya to strive for the better,” Megan says.

Under the helm of Dominic Zapata, Mari Mar is set to thrill the viewers this August on GMA. It will air worldwide on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

With a growing number of covers in some of the Philippines’ most prestigious fashion and lifestyle magazines, Janine Gutierrez, whose parents are actors Ramon Christopher and Lotlot de Leon, has definitely set her mind on making a name for herself.

The name Janine Gutierrez has been evident all over magazine spreads and online publications, and after successfully concluding her primetime soap last March, she continues to prove that she is more than just an actress and a pretty face.

She has impressed the publications that she worked with and received remarks for being unique, classy, and professional. She delivered mesmerizing photos in magazines and answered interview questions with downright brilliance.

At a recent thanksgiving event, Janine received her guests with a warm smile and took the opportunity to give thanks to the people who have been supporting her since the beginning of her career. As the country’s newest fashion muse, she expressed her excitement on being the cover girl of Preview magazine’s May issue.

“Preview is my first solo cover for a fashion magazine. And super saya nito kasi dream ko talagang mag-cover sa Preview. Siguro parang isa siya doon sa mga bagay na dream lang ng lahat ng babae or like when you were a little girl, ‘di ba?”

Despite this achievement, the GMA Artist Center star remained humble and acknowledged the team that worked hard in supporting her during the photo shoot.

I really can’t take any credit for it kasi ‘di ba, kapag shoot maraming pre-prod. May concept, maystyling, eh dadating ka lang naman, so parang ako na yung least na pwedeng mag-take credit para doon.”

Meanwhile, Janine is currently part of GMA Network’s musical variety program, Sunday All Stars. It airs worldwide via GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA Network is closing in on ABS-CBN in nationwide TV ratings with stronger programming across all timeblocks in July, according to data from the industry’s leading ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the period July 1 to 31 (with the dates of July 27 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA significantly reduced ABS-CBN’s lead in NUTAM (National Urban Television Audience Measurement) to just 0.5 percent with its 33.4 percent total day household audience share, and outscored TV5’s 11.5 percent by 21.9 points.

GMA grabbed the lead in the morning timeblock as it recorded a 32.4 percent audience share, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 29.1 percent by 3.3 points and TV5’s 12.4 percent by 20 points. Moreover, GMA more than tripled its lead in the afternoon block in July with 5.6 points relative to June’s 1.6 points, with a 35.4 percent audience share as against ABS-CBN’s 29.8; it also led TV5’s 12 percent by 23.4 points. GMA likewise improved its shares in the evening block to 32.3 percent from the previous month’s 31 percent.

Furthermore, GMA maintained its strong performance in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila with much wider margins over rival networks across all dayparts including the much contested primetime block. Urban Luzon and Mega Manila account for 77 and 60 percent of all urban TV households in the country.

GMA reigned supreme in Urban Luzon with a 36.9 percent total day audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.9 percent by 7 points, and TV5’s 10.8 percent by 26.1 points.

The Kapuso Network also remained unrivaled in Mega Manila with a 38 percent total day audience share, outperforming ABS-CBN’s 27.8 percent by 10.2 points and TV5’s 11.4 percent by 26.6 points.

GMA also ruled the overall list of top programs (including specials) in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila with 19 Kapuso programs (out of 30) making it on both lists. Among the shows that scored top ratings in the two areas are Magpakailanman, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, GMA Blockbusters, Niño, My Destiny and 24 Oras.

Magpakailanman, the weekly drama anthology hosted by esteemed broadcaster and GMA News pillar Mel Tiangco, led all Kapuso shows in the NUTAM, Urban Luzon and Mega Manila lists; while securing the top spot in Mega Manila.

GMA subscribes to the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement service, while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media.

GMA & Miss World Philippines

GMA & Miss World Philippines

Philippine broadcast industry giant GMA Network is the official media partner of Miss World Philippines 2014.

The contract signing was held on July 4 at the GMA Network Center and attended by the top officers of the Network.

Just like the pageants held in 2011 and 2013, Miss World Philippines partners with GMA Network again this year to stage and broadcast this prestigious event. Last year, the Philippines made a significant milestone as Megan Young was the first Filipino to be awarded the Miss World title.

“We’ve been partners with GMA from the beginning since 2011 and we feel that there’s no better or stronger home for us than GMA,” says Miss World Philippines National Director Cory Quirino on having GMA as a media partner. “In 2011, we successfully launched the brand Miss World Philippines wherein we placed first runner-up. This 2014, Megan comes home to crown our queen. This will be the first time she will walk the Philippine stage as our very first Miss World. It will be very historic for us and we would like to share that history-making moment with GMA,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Gozon also expressed his gladness that GMA Network was chosen as Miss World Philippines 2014’s media partner. “Our partnership with Miss World Philippines is getting stronger and longer, and we are very glad that we are chosen again to be its partner. That’s why we are entrusted by Cory. I’m sure she appreciated what we have done in the past.”

The Filipina who wins this coveted crown will be a shining example of the heart and soul of Filipino womanhood. The winner and her court will put her beauty to good use by caring for the marginalized women and children of the Philippines through various charities.

The 2014 Miss World Philippines Pageant will be held in September and viewed nationwide in the Kapuso Network and viewers all over the world may catch it through GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA Network, through its international business unit, GMA International, was at the heart of several key celebrations around the world in commemoration of the Philippines’ 116th Independence Day this June.

“Through GMA’s participation in the annual celebration of Philippine Independence, we strive to keep the Filipino spirit alive all around the globe and instill a sense of nationalism across all generations,” says GMA Vice-President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia. “GMA hopes to create a sense of home wherever there is a Filipino,” he adds.

The festivities began in New York City with Kapuso prime artists Tom Rodriguez and Heart Evangelista gracing the GMA International booth at the Philippine Independence Day celebration on Madison Avenue last June 1. To the delight of their fans, Tom and Heart readily posed for photographs with the stream of people at the GMA booth, which was one of the busiest in the area.

On June 7, the city of Carson welcomed Kapuso leading man Geoff Eigenmann in the Philippine Independence Day parade led by Carson City Mayor Pro Tempore Elito Santarina as Grand Marshall. Geoff entertained an enthusiastic crowd during the GMA variety show and ended the day interacting with his fans at the meet and greet activity.  The celebration was a showcase of Filipino culture with local Filipino performers and booths that served Filipino delicacies and products. The event is an annual activity sponsored by the city and the Philippine Independence Day Foundation, with the support of various Filipino-American organizations in Carson, Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Meanwhile, Kapuso fans in Kuwait were serenaded by Asia’s Pop Sweetheart and 9-time Platinum Record Award holder Julie Anne San Jose and singer-comedienne Gladys Guevarra at Musika at Tawanan 4 last June 13. The event, which is part of the local Philippine Independence day festivities, gathered more than 3000 overseas workers in the region for a night of fun, entertainment, and Filipino flavor. The large audience was awed by Julie Anne’s powerful performance of hit songs while Gladys captured the crowd with her comedic act.

On June 14, GMA International also participated in the Mabuhay Festival in California, an event which drew in over 7000 individuals. The GMA booth showcased the Network’s three international channels- GMA Pinoy TV, its flagship international channel; GMA Life TV, the first international Filipino lifestyle channel; and GMA News TV International, an international news channel powered by the Philippines’ most trusted news and public affairs team.

Completing the series of events were visits from two of GMA primetime’s biggest stars, Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and Kapuso Premier Actress Lovi Poe, who are currently seen on GMA Pinoy TV via the enthralling drama, Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real.

Dingdong joined his kababayans abroad at Bolingbrook in Chicago on June 21 for the Philippine Fest Piyesta Pinoy 2014 which included vibrant cultural performances by Filipino-American artists and native dance numbers by young Filipino-Americans dressed in traditional attire. The audience was not disappointed as their favorite Kapuso leading man entertained them with a song number and mingled with his fans all throughout the event.

Lovi, on the other hand, livened up the crowd at the “Pinoy Fiesta and Trade Show sa Toronto” last June 28. With a repertoire of local and foreign songs, she serenaded over 7000 Filipino-Canadians who attended the Independence Day celebration. Lovi proved to be a hit with the audience as fans lined up at the GMA booth to meet and take photos with the actress. Those who visited the booth were also treated to GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV merchandise. During her visit, Lovi was also invited to participate in the Ms. Philippines Canada coronation ceremony.

Apart from the Independence Day events, GMA International also celebrated the traditional Flores de Mayo festival in Hawaii last May. Kapuso stars Steven Silva and Benjamin Alves participated in the festivities which highlighted the colorful Filipino culture.

Through its continued presence overseas, GMA International remains instrumental in cultivating the Filipino spirit wherever a Filipino may be, keeping our kababayans both here and abroad “proudly Pinoy, proudly Kapuso.”

GMA Network (GMA) continued to pull away from competition in the viewer-rich areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in April, according to data from the industry’s leading ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

The Pacquiao-Bradley match (Pacquiao-Bradley II: Vindication), which aired on GMA Channel 7, ruled the charts in NUTAM (National Urban Television Audience Measurement), Urban Luzon and Mega Manila.

For the period April 1 to 30 (April 20 to 30 based on overnight data), GMA recorded a total day audience share of 37 percent, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 32.2 percent by 4.8 points, and ahead of TV5’s 10.5 percent by 26.5 points. Urban Luzon makes up 77 percent of the total urban television households in the country.

Relative to the previous month, GMA’s total day margin over ABS-CBN and TV5 grew from 4 to 4.8 points, and from 24.7 to 26.5 points, respectively.

More Kapuso shows figured in the list of top programs (including specials) in Urban Luzon, totalling 19 out of 30. Joining Pacquiao-Bradley II: Vindication in the top 10 were weekly drama anthology Magpakailanman, multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS), Inang Yaya (Holy Week special), weekend game show Celebrity Bluff, and reality sitcom Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento.

Completing the list are Marley & Me (Holy Week special), primetime drama Carmela, Eat Bulaga’s Lenten special Hulog ng Langit, Saturday night comedy Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, Panalangin (Holy Week special), telefantasya Kambal Sirena, GMA’s flagship newscast 24 Oras, hard-hitting investigative program Imbestigador, the country’s longest running gag show Bubble Gang, Kapuso drama Rhodora X, and Holy Week specials A Walk to Remember, KMJS, and Slam Dunk.

In Mega Manila, which accounts for 60 percent of the urban TV household population in the country, GMA registered a 38.5 percent total day household average, up 8.6 points from ABS-CBN’s 29.9 percent, and up 27.1 points from TV5’s 11.4 percent.

GMA’s lead over ABS-CBN and TV5 also increased from 7.8 to 8.6 points, and from 25.2 to 27.1 points, respectively, compared to last month.

Majority (21 out of 30) of the top-rating shows in Mega Manila were from GMA. In the top 10 with the Pacquiao-Bradley match were Magpakailanman, KMJS, Inang Yaya (Holy Week special), Celebrity Bluff, Eat Bulaga’s Lenten special Hulog ng Langit, Carmela, Marley & Me, and Pepito Manaloto Ang Tunay na Kuwento.

Likewise scoring high ratings in Mega Manila were Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, Bubble Gang, Kambal Sirena, Panalangin (Holy Week special), Imbestigador, Rhodora X, 24 Oras, Holy Week specials A Walk to Remember, KMJS, Banal na Paglalakbay, Koreanovela 100-Year Old Legacy, and the country’s longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga.

GMA’s lead in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila was driven by its strong performance in the morning block. It also continued to dominate rival networks in the afternoon and evening blocks in the said areas.

GMA, meanwhile, closes the gap with ABS-CBN in NUTAM as a result of its significant lead in the morning block, scoring 38.3 percent compared to ABS-CBN’s 27.5 percent and TV5’s 12.3 percent.

GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a sample size of 1,190 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Meanwhile, Nielsen has a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes, which is statistically higher than Kantar’s sample size of 1,370.
