Chef Boy Logro KusinaMaster Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika host Atty Lou Tancinco and its director Eric QuizonGMA International – the business unit that manages the operations and distribution of GMA Network’s international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International – bagged two nominations in the 2013 NAMIC Vision Awards alongside some of the biggest names in the US television industry.

GMA Pinoy TV’s long-running immigration program Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika (Into the Hearts of Filipinos in America) was nominated in the Foreign Language category while the 30-minute cooking show Kusina Master, which is seen worldwide via GMA Life TV, earned a nomination in the Lifestyle category.

Hosted by immigration lawyer Atty. Lou Tancinco, Pusong Pinoy Sa Amerika is now on its 8th season of informing the Filipino-American community on immigration law. This time around, the show tackles immigrant issues and stories that are affected by new immigration policies. To unravel the complexities of the immigration system, the show is bringing its audience back to the basics with its episodes exclusively focused on the most common questions and challenges that people face in the immigration system.

Meanwhile, Chef Boy Logro’s Kusina Master has become a popular source of entertainment and recipes among Filipinos abroad ever since it started airing on GMA Life TV, the first and only Filipino lifestyle channel abroad, in March 2012. With each episode, Filipino Americans are introduced to new and exciting dishes that remind them of the exceptional flavor and qualities of Pinoy cooking.

“We welcome these nominations from NAMIC and are grateful for their continuous appreciation for our programs,” said GMA Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia.

This is the second time that GMA International was nominated in the NAMIC Vision Awards. The first time was for multi-awarded broadcaster Mike Enriquez’s Review Philippines, which aired on GMA Pinoy TV in 2007.

The NAMIC Vision Awards is described in the NAMIC website as “one of the few national competitions that salutes original television or digital content that reflects the depth and breadth of experience, and contributions of people of color.” It is founded in 1994 by NAMIC Southern California and is presented this year by the NAMIC National office in partnership with NAMIC-Southern California.

The announcement of the NAMIC Vision Awards nominees was held during New Bay Media’s Multiethnic TV Summit and Leadership Awards on April 17, 2013 at the Hilton New York, while the winners will be awarded in Los Angeles, California in May.

“We want to let our viewers know that more and more Filipinos are developing appreciation for this emerging sport,” said GMA Vice President and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia. “This is going to be an exciting season as Sports Vision Management announced that they are also organizing an All-star Weekend, where in past and present star players will engage in a friendly competition.”

ROCCO NACINO gntv bayan ko

BAYAN KO photoAre the Filipinos ready for a drama that tackles issues such as corruption, bureaucracy, malnutrition, illegal logging and political dynasties? Find out this April, when GMA News TV International launches its 1st original series and most ambitious project to date – BAYAN KO.

Inspired by the social realist films of director Lino Brocka, Bayan Ko tells the story of newly elected Mayor Joseph Santiago, who sets out to make a difference in the fictional town of Lagros.

The idealistic Mayor faces roadblocks at every turn.  He must learn to lead lazy and uncooperative municipal employees, change the mindset of a mendicant populace and stand up to a powerful dynasty led by patriarch Governor Antonio Rubio.

Actor Rocco Nacino plays Mayor Joseph, veteran Pen Medina plays the corrupt Governor, Ping Medina is the Congressman, indie film princess Mercedes Cabral the powerful contractor, LJ Reyes the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, while Betong Sumaya and Love Anover take on roles as slacker municipal employees.

Bayan Ko tackles serious matters with a touch of comedy – and an unexpected romance – but its primary goal is to bring political and social issues closer to the heart of viewers locally and abroad.

“We hope that through Bayan Ko, voters realize that good governance is not only possible but crucial to our progress and start to demand better performance from the officials they elect,” says News TV channel head and Bayan Ko creator Nessa Valdellon.

Bayan Ko, a groundbreaking television project and GMA News TV International’s 1st original series, is shot entirely on high definition and unlike most television dramas, goes through the color grading process. It is directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., produced by Eliza Zamora Solis, and written by Rodolfo Vera.

BAYAN KO launches this April 6 on GMA News TV International. Call your preferred pay TV operator to subscribe or visit www.gmanetwork.com/international for more details.
