GMA Network sealed the month of June on a positive note as it held on to its lead in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, citing data from the industry’s most trusted ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Urban Luzon and Mega Manila represent 77% and 60%, respectively, of all urban TV households in the country.

For the period June 1 to 30 (with the dates of June 26 to 30 based on overnight data), GMA ruled in Urban Luzon with a 34.5% total day household audience share, surpassing ABS-CBN’s 32.7% by 1.8 points, and TV5’s 11.6% by 22.9 points.

GMA similarly maintained its lead in total day ratings in Mega Manila with a 35.9% household audience share, up 5.9 points from ABS-CBN’s 30% and up 23.2 points from TV5’s 12.7%. GMA bested ABS across all time blocks in Mega Manila.

Furthermore, GMA outnumbered ABS-CBN in the list of the most watched programs (including specials) in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, totalling 18 and 20 (out of 30), respectively. Kapuso programs that figured prominently in both the Urban Luzon and Mega Manila lists include Magpakailanman, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, 24 Oras, My Love from the Star, Celebrity Bluff and Niño.

Likewise making it to both lists are newly launched programs My Destiny, Marian, Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real, and Ismol Family.

In over-all NUTAM, GMA grabbed the afternoon block lead from ABS-CBN with a 33.5% household audience share compared to the latter’s 31.9%.

GMA subscribes to the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement service, while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media.

Adding to its recent string of victories in international competitions, GMA Network gained eight recognitions in the 2014 US International Film and Video Festival (USIFVF) based in Los Angeles, California.

GMA’s latest win consists of two Gold Camera and five Silver Screen awards for its News and Public Affairs shows, and a Certificate of Creative Excellence for one of its Entertainment programs.

Taking home golds (first place) are GMA News TV shows in the Documentary production category, namely Wagas: Mga Kuwento ng Totoong Pag-Ibig, for Docudrama programs; and Brigada, for Social Issues programs.

Wagas has also been included in the shortlist of documentaries nominated for the Best of Festival (Grand Prix) Award, reserved only for the most outstanding Gold Camera recipients. Winners will be announced on June 16.

The show’s entry was its “Cerebral Palsy” episode, which featured the inspiring love story of an ailing Ron Saniposo (played by Sid Lucero) and his wife Grace (portrayed by GMA Artist Center talent Gwen Zamora).

Brigada’s “Gintong Krudo” episode, meanwhile, exposed the hazards faced by impoverished children at the Navotas Fish Port, who swim in filthy waters to collect spilled crude oil.

The same episode also won the Silver World Medal in the 2014 New York Festival, where GMA bagged one gold, two more silvers, and three bronze world medals.

Earning one of five Silver Screen awards (second place) for the network was GMA News TV’s primetime newscast, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, in the TV News category for Continuing News Stories.

The newscast was cited for its coverage of Super Typhoon Yolanda (international code name: Haiyan) last November. It was also part of GMA News and Public Affairs’ gold medal triumph at the George Foster Peabody Awards, considered the equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize for electronic media.

This is the third consecutive year that State of the Nation was recognized by the USIFVF. Last year, it won the Silver Screen Award for “The Wrath of the Monsoon,” its coverage of the disastrous habagat rains that swamped Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

In 2012, State of the Nation received a Certificate for Creative Excellence (third place) for its episode on the aftermath of Typhoon Sendong (international code name: Washi).

“Silang Wala sa Mapa” showed how the B’laan indigenous people of Mindanao survived for generations without modern medicine. It was also a Silver World Medal recipient in the 2014 New York Festival.

“Dungkoy,” on the other hand, told the story of a nine-year-old boy who takes care of his paralyzed grandmother. Both characters share similar fates of being forsaken by their own families.

Amuerfina Reyes, and GMA International Marketing Manager Patricia B. Gutierrez

GMA Network, through its international business unit GMA International, supported the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in its celebration of Migrant Workers’ Day at the POEA office in Mandaluyong City on June 6.

“GMA International salutes all overseas Filipino workers who continue to bring pride to our country and we support POEA’s advocacy of extending much-needed services to our kababayans abroad,” expressed GMA Network VP and Head of International Operations Joseph T. Francia. “We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with the POEA.”

With the theme, “Magkasangga Para sa Kapakanan, Kabuhayan at Kalusugan ng OFW”, overseas Filipino workers who visited the POEA office were treated to welfare and health services as well as livelihood assistance from various government agencies and private stakeholders.

“GMA Network has been one of our active partners in advancing the interests of OFWs. It has likewise been a big help in disseminating information to the public about our services and programs and in our campaign against illegal recruitment and trafficking in person,” says POEA Deputy Administrator Atty. Amuerfina Reyes.

Through its existing partnership with the POEA, GMA Network donated television sets to POEA offices all over the country in order to provide comfort and relaxation to visiting OFWs and give them access to quality entertainment and responsible news delivery through GMA programs.

Visitors were able to avail of free polio vaccination, medical consultations, as well as medicines and vitamins, courtesy of the Department of Health, the Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and POEA’s medical clinic association partners. Government agencies such as SSS, Philhealth, Pag-IBIG Fund and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) also provided information on their respective programs and services while POEA lawyers offered free legal assistance.

Moreover, the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Association (OWWA) catered to concerns on the many programs and benefits that it offers its members around the world. Through the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), Filipinos returning permanently to the Philippines were presented with livelihood and entrepreneurship programs. Meanwhile, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) had a demonstration of the different skill sets offered by its accredited technical vocational institutions. Interested individuals who visited the different booths availed of free haircuts and massages. POEA’s partners from the private sector also donated raffle prizes, conducted fun games and provided snacks and other souvenir items.

The day’s program also included the unveiling of a mural along the POEA perimeter wall, which forms part of POEA’s anti-illegal recruitment campaign. The mural was designed and painted by member artists of the Teach Peace, Build Peace Movement, an organization which advocates peace-building among the youth through innovative and creative strategies.

Dingdong Dantes

Dingdong Dantes

Kapuso primetime king Dingdong Dantes takes on a new and challenging role in GMA Network’s newest primetime series, Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real, currently airing on its flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

He plays the role of Anthony Real, a man who is in love with two women and marries them both.  The two women are endearing to Dingdong’s character, making him feel complete as a man, husband and a father. According to him, playing this character is far from what he portrayed in his previous roles. “Medyo malayo siya sa previous roles ko kasi ito nangyayari talaga sa totoong buhay and at the same time, first time kong gaganap na may dalawang asawa,” he said.

Adding that the series is not a typical story about infidelity or unfaithfulness, “it’s really about the story of three people who love in different forms, in different intensity levels, and it is also a story about families and how they cope with mistakes and consequences.”

Playing opposite him in the series are Kapuso Premier Actress Lovi Poe as Shiela Real and the Diamond Star Ms. Maricel Soriano as Millet Real. The series will be the first team up of the industry’s multi-awarded actors: Dingdong, Lovi and Ms. Maricel; and anticipation is high as they showcase their love triangle onscreen which promises to captivate viewers with their stellar performances.

“Isang malaking karangalan na makatrabaho si Lovi and Maricel. Since this is a different and challenging role for me, sila pa ang makakasama ko,” said Dingdong.

With the international airing of this exciting new series, Dingdong hopes that Kapuso fans overseas will feel closer to home through local programs such as this.

Parati niyong asahan na patuloy kaming gagawa ng mga shows na makapagpapalapit pa lalo ng Pilipinas sa inyo,” he expresses.

Find out until when can Dingdong as Anthony Real live the life of being a husband to two wives in Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real only on GMA Pinoy TV.

Eat Bulaga in San Francisco, California

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA), through its international business unit, was once again recognized by the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) after winning six EMMAs (Excellence in Multi-Cultural Marketing Awards) for its highly innovative international marketing tactics.

This is by far the most number of awards won by GMA compared to previous years, and the Network’s first time to earn two first place recognitions in its long history of winning in the competition.

“We have been recognized by NAMIC almost every year since GMA Pinoy TV was launched in 2005,” said GMA International Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph T. Francia. “It is worth noting that the awards we received this year honor different tactics in our integrated marketing mix covering the gamut of our 360-degree approach to reaching our existing and potential subscribers, from our digital initiatives to more traditional schemes.”

Pacquiao Call-Out

The “Support Manny Pacquiao” online campaign for the boxing hero’s most recent fight against Juan Manuel Marquez was awarded first place in the Digital Category. The campaign was recognized for effectively engaging Filipinos living in the US, Asia-Pacific and Middle East to send in messages for Pacquiao via GMA’s citizen journalism tool, YouScoop. Highlighting Pinoy pride, these messages were later aired over GMA’s international channels.

Kapuso Abroad Magazine

The GMA International magazine dubbed as “Kapuso Abroad” (KA), meanwhile, won first place in the Grassroots category. KA is dedicated to making Filipinos living abroad feel closer to home by providing them with relevant and entertaining information about their favorite Kapuso programs and personalities. The magazine is circulated worldwide and the increasing demand for KA prompted GMA to create a digital version of the magazine in order to reach more Filipinos globally.

Winning third place in the Experiential Marketing category is the Eat Bulaga Live in San Francisco show held last March 30. Being the country’s longest running, most awarded and most influential noontime show, bringing Eat Bulaga to the US allowed Filipino-Americans to experience the classic brand of Pinoy entertainment that only a show like EB can offer. The event gathered over 6,000 attendees from Filipino-American communities in San Francisco and Northern California, and significantly increased the subscription base of GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA also won third place in the Diversity Awareness category for its participation in The Outstanding Filipino Americans (TOFA) awards. TOFA honors Filipino-Americans who have helped uplift the Filipino-American community through their outstanding achievements in their chosen profession. GMA leveraged on this opportunity to celebrate the excellence of the Filipino race by providing media mileage and trophies to all awardees. GMA was able to connect with more than 14,000 voters of TOFA via Facebook and reached out to around 300 attendees from various Filipino-American communities.

Meanwhile, GMA’s environment-friendly non-woven bags won third place in the Premium category. These fully functional, eco-friendly bags represent the Network’s active participation in Corporate Social Responsibility and environmental protection. The bags are always a sought-after premium during events and marketing activities stimulating brand recall. They also resonate well with subscriber cities like San Francisco that aggressively promote the use of reusable shopping bags.

Finally, the one-minute free advertising offering “Pinoy Inbox”, which ran from June 2010 to May 2011, finished third place in the Television category. This marketing tactic was built in the hopes of building affinity with GMA Pinoy TV subscribers. This proved to be successful as subscribers continue to pour in giving birth to its spin-off, “Pinoy Photobox.”

“This is a fitting reward for our hard work especially as we celebrate our 7th anniversary this year,” said Francia. “These awards are a validation of our efforts to innovate and be more creative in our marketing efforts, and to be even more relevant in today’s highly competitive, fast-evolving pay-television landscape. We are truly honoured to receive these recognitions from a prestigious organization such as NAMIC,” he added.

NAMIC is an international organization that recognizes superior multicultural marketing practices in the cable industry. Established in 1980 as non-profit trade organization, it has over 2,700 professionals belonging to a network of 16 chapters worldwide. The awarding of winners will take place on September 11 and 12 at Hilton New York.

GMA’s international unit oversees the distribution overseas of flagship channel GMA Pinoy TV, as well as GMA Life TV, GMA News TV International, DZBB and DWLS. To-date, the channels reach over 2 million viewers on various pay-TV platforms in 90 countries worldwide.
