Julie Ann San Jose

Julie Ann San Jose

At the young age of 21, Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose has already hit the high notes when it comes to her career.

The Kapuso star has her hands full with three regular shows – Sunday All Stars, Pepito Manaloto, and GMA News TV’s Day Off – plus an upcoming afternoon soap Buena Familia, which is set to premiere this July.

Julie Anne will play the role of 19-year-old Darling Buena in the forthcoming series opposite Jake Vargas.  “’Yung story pong Buena Familia, nasa upper class ‘yung family naming tapos maghihirap kami,” she said during a recent interview.

Asked to share a bit more about her role, Julie Anne said: “Hindi siyasobrang mahinhin. Hindi siya pa-cute. Mahilig siyang lumabas at mag-shopping. Tapos very artistic din siya. Mahilig siyang kumanta at mag-play ng instruments.”

With a successful career under her belt, how does Julie Anne juggle her time? “Time management lang. Kasi for me, as long as you love what you’re doing and as long as you’re passionate about your craft, hinding-hindi ka mapapagod. Hindi ko po iniisip ‘yun kasi happy naman po ako sa mga ginagawako, love ko ‘yung ginagawa ko, love ko ‘yung trabaho ko,” she explained.

Meanwhile, one more thing that will surely take up most of her time come August is her studies. An AB Communication Arts student of Angelicum College in Quezon City, Julie Anne plans to take up a full course load and wishes to graduate next year so as to make her parents proud.

“Kailangan mataas ‘yung grades kasi last semester, Dean’s lister ako. So sabi ko, masarap sa feeling. Saka siyempre, sa mga magulang mo, masarap ‘yung feeling na ibabalita mo sa kanila na ‘okay naman po ako sa school,’” she shared.

Catch more of Julie Anne in Buena Familia premiering soon on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

IYA VILLANIA

IYA VILLANIA

“No. As of now, ‘yun pa rin naman ‘yung plano namin ni Drew na next year pa (magkaka-baby),” said Kapuso star Iya Villania during a recent press interview.

At saka, I mean, hindi naman talaga halata ‘yung belly ng mom kapag four to five months ‘di ba? Feeling ko I’ll be able to get away with it for a while paKapag hindi na akosuma-side view, alam naPero next year pa naman. That’s the plan,” she added.

These are busy days for Iya. She will now have to juggle her time between taping for GMA News TV’s Taste Buddies, doing production numbers on weekend variety show Sunday All Stars, and hosting 24 Oras’ showbiz segment Chika Minute.

Gusto kong isipin na parang guest pa lang ako kasi ayaw ko ‘yung kabaayaw ko ‘yung pressure,” shared Iya, who officially replaced Pia Guanio as Chika Minute host last June 15.

Iya said she feels glad that GMA News chose her and embraced her quirkiness. “Gusto kong umiyakNakakakilignakakatuwa. I mean, it really is a pleasant surprise. I wouldn’t say na I was deserving, for me, it’s really God’s will. If it’s not for you, then it’s not for you. If it’s for you, mapupunta ‘yan sa iyo. So kung hindi napunta sa akin, I would have been okay rin naman,” she shared.

Though it’s admittedly a challenge for Iya to speak fluently in Filipino, she promised she would give it her best shot to properly deliver the news. “They (viewers) will get to see me try my best sa wikang Filipino. Yes, sa Filipino talaga. But I never give up and I always put everything that I can into whatever it is that I do, so I will definitely do my best na i-deliver ng tama ‘yung news,” she explained.

Being the bubbly person that she is, Iya considers toning down her energy as the biggest challenge of all. “Depende sa level na required sa akin. Of course, it would also depend din sa news. Kasi kung medyo sad ‘yung news, hindi naman pwede. So maga-adjust naman ako. I will be appropriate,” she said.

Catch Iya Villania on 24 Oras, together with veteran broadcasters Mel Tiangco, Mike Enriquez, and Vicky Morales, airing weeknights on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

Silver Award 2015 Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards

Silver Award 2015 Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards

After bagging the World Bronze  Medal at the 2015 New York Festivals last April, GMA News TV’s “May Pag-asa” Station ID continues to bring home accolades from award-giving bodies.

In May, the Station ID won Silver in the Advocacy Marketing Category  at the Philippine Association for National Advertisers PANAta Marketing Effectiveness Awards. The body honors the best communication tools in the country.

In the recently concluded 2015 Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards on June 9, GMA News TV’s “May Pag-asa” Station ID brought home another Silver in the Advocacy Category.  The Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards recognizes brands from around the world which not only deliver results but promote social good, celebrate human truths, ignite purpose and effect real change.

The Station ID presented a moving and heartwarming collection of stories of hope featuring the little known trials and tragedies that the channel’s personalities have overcome … such as venerable talk show host Winnie Monsod’s having recently had a stroke, Peabody award winning documentarist Jay Taruc taking care of his daughter with spinal muscular atrophy, investigative journalist Malou Mangahas having been imprisoned during Martial Law etc.  The campaign showed that the GMA News TV anchors, like their viewers, have gone through trying times yet have bounced back.

The inspiring campaign was the brainchild of Nena Dumol who was diagnosed with Lupus in 2011 but continues to work as a Senior Program Manager for GMA News TV.

(Quezon City, Philippines) – GMA Network is pulling all stops to secure its dominant position in the broadcast industry, according to the Company’s Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon.

In his report during the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on May 20 (Wednesday), Gozon announced that, despite strategic efforts to manage costs last year, they remained committed in ensuring their competitiveness.

“Thanks to a thorough review of our business needs vis-a-vis our capabilities, and the industry situation as a whole, all transmitter and other upgrades that were already in the pipeline were still implemented despite our belt-tightening,” he said.

Moreover, the Network continued to enhance its capacity to produce content in high definition in relation to the eventual shift from analog to digital TV.

“Our bigger studios in our Quezon City headquarters were also upgraded to high definition. Likewise, all our OB van facilities have been wired with new broadcast peripherals and are now capable of multi-format including HD recording,” Gozon said.

In relation to the Network’s financial performance, Gozon assured stockholders that the company’s fundamentals remain “sound and good.”

GMA ended 2014 with an EBITDA of P2.925 billion while consolidated net income settled at P1.010 billion primarily due to the absence of political ads.

Meanwhile, other business units and subsidiaries of the Network posted positive results, recording total revenues of P1.304 billion or 7 percent higher compared to 2013.

For 2015, Gozon affirmed that the company is focused on growing and strengthening the business. “We are ready to move forward, armed with our plans to further expand or improve all areas of our business,” he said noting on strong indications that 2015 will be a much better year for the company.

“To be sure, our net income for the first quarter of 2015 was already 25 percent more than our net income in the first quarter of 2014,” announced Gozon.

The Network previously reported that revenues for the first three months improved by 5 percent to P3.006 billion mainly on higher airtime sales from Channel 7, GMA News TV and GMA Radio.

Operating expenses slightly went up by 3 percent to P2.432 billion while EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) settled at P986 million, up 20 percent from last year.

Broadcast giant GMA Network led in an independent study measuring digital TV presence in the country, affirming the robust coverage of the Network’s digital TV signal.

The study, which was conducted by local smartphone and tablet manufacturer Starmobile, revealed that GMA 1SEG and GMA News TV were available in 10 out of the 14 test locations in Metro Manila.

Other channels surveyed were ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN Sports, TV5, and AKSYON TV, among others.

“The results of the study confirm our readiness for the eventual shift to Digital TV,” says Engr. Elvis B. Ancheta, GMA Senior Vice President for Engineering.

In compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission, GMA has started to adapt the Japanese DTV standard or ISDB-T.

“Moreover, it manifests the level of importance the Network has placed in being able to reach as many viewers as possible as this ultimately determines our audience size,” Ancheta adds.

The Network takes pride in its commitment to signal superiority as evidenced by its excellent signal across the country, an advantage over competitors exhibited consistently by its analog footprint which it commits to carry over to digital.

Based on claimed household reception findings in the 2014 TV Establishment Survey of Nielsen Philippines, GMA is received by 99 percent of all TV households in Total Urban Philippines, leading other local free-to-air channels.

As it continues to improve and expand its coverage in the regions, GMA completed numerous transmission upgrades in 2014. The Network commissioned a new 2KW TV relay station in Daet, Camarines Norte and re-located its transmitting station in Iligan City to enable the re-broadcast of Northern Mindanao programs from Cagayan de Oro.

GMA is set to commission a new 5KW TV relay station in Butuan City this May.
