GMA Network’s The Half Sisters is undoubtedly the number one daytime drama show in the Philippines as the series continues its phenomenal ratings success, according to data from the industry’s widely trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Based on National Urban Philippines data for March 1-31 (March 22-31 based on overnight data), The Half Sisters registered a household rating of 17.6 percent, leading ABS-CBN’s Flordeliza’s 10.3 percent by 7.3 points.

In Urban Luzon, which comprises 77 percent of the total urban TV households nationwide, The Half Sisters posted 19.9 percent household ratings, 11 points higher than Flordeliza’s 8.9 percent.

The Afternoon Prime series likewise led in Mega Manila, which represents 59 percent of the total urban TV households in the country, with 21.1 percent household ratings, leading Flordeliza’s 7.9 percent by 13.2 points.

Avid viewers of The Half Sisters will have more reason to stay glued to their favorite drama series as it will now air up to June this year with more plot twists to be revealed in the succeeding episodes.

The Half Sisters explores the phenomenon of hetero-paternal superfecundation, which is the successive fertilization of two or more ova from the same ovulation cycle by different sires. This is made possible by separate successive acts of sexual intercourse resulting to one woman bearing “twins” with different fathers.

This controversial soap opera stars Kapuso teen actresses Barbie Forteza as the kind, diligent and obedient Diana Alcantara, and Thea Tolentino as the spoiled, conceited and manipulative Ashley Alcantara.

The cast is also composed of Derrick Monasterio and Andre Paras, together with Ms. Gloria Romero, Jean Garcia, Eula Valdez, Jomari Yllana, Mel Martinez, and Ryan Eigenmann. All of them could not be any happier as they continue to reap praises from viewers and positive feedbacks from netizens for their great performances.

Expect more revelations and twists as the drama continues in The Half Sisters, directed by Mark Reyes, weekdays after Eat Bulaga on GMA Afternoon Prime.

GMA Network continued to dominate TV ratings in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in October, besting other free-to-air TV stations by substantial margins, according to data from the industry’s leading ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

For the period October 1 to 31 (with the dates of October 26 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA led competition in total day ratings in Urban Luzon with a 37% household audience share, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 30.8% by 6.2 points and TV5’s 8.2% by 28.8 points.

GMA likewise remained undefeated in Mega Manila, posting a 38.1% household audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 28.1% by 10 points and TV5’s 8.9% by 29.2 points.

GMA beat other networks in all time blocks in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila including primetime.

Moreover, multi-awarded news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho emerged as the number one program in the two areas, and was also the highest rating Kapuso program in NUTAM.

Ryan AgoncilloSundays with the whole family will be more fun and exciting as GMA Network presents its newest game show – PICTURE! PICTURE! The program premieres December 8 on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

This one-hour game show will be hosted by returning Kapuso, ace TV host and celebrity dad Ryan Agoncillo. Ryan has certainly proved his calibre in hosting various programs over the years; and as he tries his hand at being the game master of Picture! Picture, he will surely amuse, charm and conquer the hearts of Filipino families locally and abroad.

Picture! Picture! will show viewers how photos can be emotionally engaging, eliciting wide range of emotions. After a set of three questions, the team must eliminate one member. The first person to buzz in and give the correct answer will have the power to kick out a player. In answering a kick out question, the player’s first answer will be considered his/her last answer.

Making Picture! Picture! extra thrilling is the “Back Ups” option which will help the team survive the game. First is Twin Picks where the team is allowed to choose two answers from the three choices. They can use this only once anytime during the game except in the last question. The Save Pic, on the other hand, is the team’s extra life. If they give the wrong answer, they will be automatically saved and will be allowed to continue playing.

The game is over when the remaining players either make a mistake or reach the final question. For the jackpot question, the player must give his/her answers to the five pictures shown within the 60 seconds time limit. If the game ends and there’s still time, a new team will play.

My Husband's Lover staring Tom Rodriguez, Dennis Trillo, and Carla Abellana.

My Husband’s Lover staring Tom Rodriguez, Dennis Trillo, and Carla Abellana.

When actor Tom Rodriguez accepted the offer to play closeted homosexual Vincent in the GMA 7 drama series “My Husband’s Lover,” he knew the role would be the biggest challenge in his career so far. What he didn’t expect was that he’d become the talk of the town via his very nuanced portrayal of a conflicted married man torn between his wife Lally (played by Carla Abellana) and his lover Eric (played by Dennis Trillo).

“When I heard about the audition, I had that apprehension, that fear. Nung nakwento sa akin yung theme or the type of show that it was gonna be, I froze. Namutla ako, to be honest,” he said.

“But naisip ko na this is going to be the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. I don’t know if this is going to be the most challenging thing I’ll ever do, because I want to challenge myself pa more in the future. But this is the most challenging role to date that I’ve done.”

Actually, Tom became more than just a local sensation. The Kapuso actor is now being watched all over the globe through GMA Pinoy TV. Even non-Pinoys try to follow the unusual love triangle of Vincent, Lally, and Eric—despite not knowing a single word of Tagalog. “My Husband’s Lover” and its numerous hashtags are constant trending topics on Twitter Philippines, and the show continues to be the subject of Philippine—and even international—media.

“Puro mixed emotions pa rin hanggang ngayon, e. Andoon yung pressure. Pressure to continue giving quality product or quality show for the viewers. And at the same time, I’d very happy for the buzz that has been created and we’re so thankful for the fans who are responsible for it,” Tom said regarding the success of “My Husband’s Lover.”

A native of Samar, Tom migrated to the United States when he was 12 years old. Born to an American father and Filipina mother, the actor (real name: Bartolome Mott) got his start in showbiz via a rival network’s reality show. He appeared in a number of critically and financially successful shows, including 2011’s “Temptation Island” produced by GMA Films and Regal Entertainment with Kapuso stars Marian Rivera, Solenn Heussaff, Lovi Poe, and Heart Evangelista. He also played the title character in the Philippine stage adaptation of the musical “Aladdin.” But “My Husband’s Lover” has proved to be his tipping point as an actor, the breakthrough of his career.

He credits Carla and Dennis as the best possible co-actors for this kind of show.

“I get to work with a multi-awarded actor. It’s always a bonus because you get to learn so much na you wouldn’t otherwise get,” Tom said. “Same with Carla, because she is a natural, very talented actress.”

As expected, “My Husband’s Lover” received a bit of scrutiny from religious and conservative sectors. But Tom isn’t concerned about this.

“For me, I always make it a point to stress na everyone is free to have their own opinion. But you still need to have that level of respect with each other. Each of us may not agree with the same opinon, but we’re free to express them. So with that, I have qualms because we’re secure with what we’re doing,” he said.

The Kapuso actor added, “As long as GMA and the people are happy with what we’re doing, that’s the only thing that matters to us because we’re only here to entertain the viewers.”

“My Husband’s Lover” can be seen worldwide on GMA Pinoy TV, the flagship international channel of GMA.

Filipinos abroad can now see more of ace comedian and TV host Vic Sotto as he returns to doing family sitcoms via Vampire Ang Daddy Ko, premiering on Saturday, March 16 on GMA Pinoy TV.

This original family sitcom produced by GMA Network and MZet Productions also stars Oyo Sotto, Glaiza De Castro, Bea Binene, Derrick Monasterio, Jackie Lou Blanco and Ms. Pilita Corales.

Completing the star-studded cast are Jimmy Santos, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Anjo Yllana, Jin Ri Park, Jinky Oda, and Sef Cadayona.

Vampire ang Daddy Ko is a family sitcom written along the lines Okay Ka, Fairy Ko (OKFK). OKFK established its own mythology and its own set of rules. For instance, despite her powers to appear and disappear at will and erase the memory of others, Ina Magenta could not bring back the dead from the living. She was powerful, but she believed in God. Also, OKFK was a family show before anything else. It imparted wholesome family values without departing from being a situation-comedy. OKFK was a fight between good and evil but it did not aim to frighten, so that it could tap both young and old audiences.

Vampire ang Daddy Ko seeks to accomplish all that and more, using a faster pace of storytelling and modern post-production editing techniques. Not only will Vampire ang Daddy Ko remind Okay Ka, Fairy Ko fans of the same enchanting feeling that this popular show used to bring, it will also introduce young Filipinos abroad to this television format identified first and foremost with OKFK.

The story revolves around a family where the head is a vampire, and where love is the only thing that makes them survive everybody’s suspicion and their own paranoia. But more importantly, the story focuses on the love of a son for his father and vice-versa.

Vlad (Oyo) is a semi-retired vampire and the head of the family. He’s been making do with animal blood since he married a human, Sonya (Jackie Lou / Pilita). It is his great love for Sonya that made him want to reform. Sonya, in turn, has promised to give him fine and outstanding children, and she’s given him two sons, Vad and Victor (Vic).

Unlike his older brother, Victor is not a vampire. He has issues with his father. He knows his father is a vampire who, from time to time, still consorts with active vampires. Vic feels his father doesn’t love him as much as he does his missing older son, Vad. Vlad continues to tempt Victor with pig’s blood, measures his cuspids to see if they’ve grown into fangs, and in his presence keeps on asking his wife Sonya if it’s possible for them to have picked up the wrong baby in the hospital nursery.

Will the love between father and son outweigh their differences?

Written and directed by Ms. Bibeth Orteza, find out how Vlad and Sonya, together with the merry mix of characters of Small and Big, Bibo, Jinri, Omma, Stefani, Derry, Bebe, and Vavavoom will make Victor’s life a lot more interesting and exciting.

Don’t miss Vampire ang Daddy Ko as it premieres on March 16 and will air every Saturday on GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.
