GMA Network, Inc. – through its international unit – welcomed Cesar Guarin, the first Filipino global runner and “Father of Ultramarathon” in the Philippines, from the latter’s successful global run in Europe.

The GR Team had just returned from Guarin’s 80-day, 1,820-km run from Finland to England as part of their global run project and Guarin’s quest to become the first Filipino to run around the world.

GMA staked in their full support as the official media sponsor for this global undertaking and will do the same for his Middle East run, which will happen on January 25, 2013.

“We congratulate Cesar and the rest of the Global Run Team for successfully conquering Europe. We look forward to once again taking part in such a commendable endeavour as they take on the Middle East next year,” said GMA International Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph Francia.

The GR Team was able to connect and gather support from 52 Filipino communities in 31 major towns and cities in the United Kingdom and Scandinavian countries. They participated in 2 major events in Finland namely, the Women’s Fun Run in Helsinki with 28,000 participants and the World Village Festival along with 50,000 other attendees.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of GMA Network, Filipino communities and generous volunteers,” shared GRT Project Head and Consultant Joon Malicse.

Cesar Guarin is now preparing for his most challenging global run stage of all – the Stage 7: Middle East run. This stage stands out not only for its terrifying distance of 1,265 km, but also for the extreme weather condition, rough terrain and blinding sandstorms it throws. He will run in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Present during the courtesy call held last August 31 at GMA Network Center were (from left to right) GR Project Coordinator, Abbey Jose; Cesar’s handler in his Europe run and his son, Gati Guarin; Global runner, Cesar Guarin; GMA International Vice President, Joseph T. Francia; GR Project Manager/handler for ME run, Larry Balayon; GR Project Head, Joon Malicse.
